Anderson Leonardo, lead singer of Molejo, was admitted this Sunday (24) to a hospital in Rio de Janeiro after worsening of your health condition. The artist had been discharged from hospital on the 19th and recorded in the studio two days later, but had to return to the hospital. His condition is considered serious.
After all, what about Anderson? The singer said in May last year that he was diagnosed with cancer in the inguinal region and has been undergoing treatment ever since.
The inguinal region is in the “groin, where the end of the belly meets the beginning of the thigh”, explains doctor Flávio Mavignier Cárcano, a specialist in genitourinary cancer at Oncoclínicas, in Belo Horizonte.
“This is a region where, beneath the skin, there is a channel through which important structures pass. Among them, there are lymph nodes, which are structures that we have throughout the body and that function as biological filters as part of the immune system”, he adds.
The doctor explains that, in Anderson’s case, there could be many possibilities, which makes it difficult to say what to “expect from this treatment”.
However, “in the case of men, a cancer that appears primarily in the penis can metastasize to the inguinal region”. On the other hand, if the patient is a woman, “sometimes vulvar cancer can also metastasize to the inguinal region.”
“Other types of cancer, such as lymphomas, appear primarily in the lymph nodes, but not necessarily just in one region. In the inguinal region, they may be affecting other lymph nodes in other parts of the body”, he points out.
The doctor states that it is not possible to say that the cancer that affects Anderson is considered rare. This is because there is still no clear information “about the type of cancer” he has.
“If it is penile cancer, it is relatively rare. If it’s vulvar cancer in women, it’s another profile that affects it”, he explains.
Regarding the possibility of a cure, this also depends on the type of cancer that Anderson treats. “It will depend on the type of cancer, the stage of the disease, that is, if it is a disease that is restricted to that area, if it is a disease that has already spread, all of these factors will influence the possibility of a cure”, he explains.
Symptoms
According to the doctor, the main symptom of cancer in the inguinal region is an increase in volume in the affected area. “You can palpate a modulation, often a hard modulation, which may or may not be painful. In general, it may be adhering to the surrounding tissue, so it’s not that little lump that dances on your fingertips, it’s a modulation that’s more fixed.”

According to the artist’s advisor, Anderson is in serious condition and needs “prayers”.
