After writing an unparalleled chapter for Brazilian Metal in the time they were together in Gravethe brothers Max It is Iggor Cavalera reunited in 2007 to expand their musical legacy with the group Cavalera Conspiracy.

But, along the way, the musicians needed to recover something much bigger than their musical affinity: their own family relationship, which was shaken when Max left Sepultura in 1996, shortly after the release of the classic Roots.

Disagreements between Iggor, Andreas Kisser, Paulo Xisto Jr. and the band’s then manager Gloria CavaleraMax’s wife, caused the brothers to spend more than 10 years without speaking to each other.

In an interview with the magazine Metal Hammer In 2008, Iggor Cavalera revealed two reasons that made him end his silence, pick up the phone and start reconciliation with Max. One of them has to do with his children, and the other with the murder of Dimebag Darrellguitarist of Pantherwhich happened in 2004:

I did this for many reasons. There were personal reasons, family reasons, the fact that he is my brother. I didn’t want my kids to grow up without knowing Max. And also the whole Dimebag situation affected both of us, because we knew him and Vinnie Paul well. It made us wonder what we would do if it happened to us. It didn’t seem like a good situation to me, so I decided to call regardless of what the outcome would be.

In the same 2008 interview, Max Cavalera said he was a little reticent at first, but soon approved of his brother’s attitude. As for the other former Sepultura colleagues, he believed there was no chance of a rapprochement:

You know, I’m very proud of my brother. He made that call without knowing if I would respond that I never wanted to speak to him again. This reminds me of a quote from Martin Luther King, ‘The worst things in the world are the ones we leave unsaid’. […] About Andreas and Paulo, I see no reason to talk about them. It’s like the presidential elections in the US right now, which to me are a complete joke. It’s just a bunch of people saying how much they hate each other. What good can come out of this?

It is worth remembering that Sepultura is currently carrying out its farewell tour, in which it also celebrates 40 years of career, and guitarist Andreas Kisser said that he is considering the possibility of inviting the Cavalera brothers to the stage. Will this reunion finally come?!
