Right at the beginning of the lyrics of “1000 Times Goodbye”, it is possible to notice that the relationship between the couple that is the subject of the song is not going well. The opening verses show that the man in the relationship knew that his love castle was crumbling. Check out some of the verses below that show the agony experienced by the boy.

Well, as if the pain of separation wasn’t enough, the big boy discovers that he is being betrayed. He finds out about the hat he took when his partner calls and tells him that she was giving him a balloon a while ago. Before the solo of “1000 Times Goodbye”, the woman finally confesses that she was getting crazy (and a pair of horns) in her ex-partner.
“I will always love you, but not like this. I want to be honest with you, I met someone else. And I really, really love you like I used to love you. Remember the time I told you I was leaving town a business? Well, I went to see him”, said the girl, who was offended by a “you suck” (not a friendly expression).

In the final part of “1000 Times Goodbye”, the character in the song still tries to say a few more words and leave the door open for a future relationship.
“You’ll always have a special place in my heart, you know that. I just can’t be with you anymore, it’s over. Things might not work out with him, and if they don’t, I’ll definitely call you.”
You mean a lot to me, I still really want to be your friend. I love you as if you were my brother.”
The speech is solemnly ignored by the betrayed boy, who hangs up the phone on the girl. And the sound of the telephone going off the hook ends the song that is the theme of this note.

Although it is an interesting work, “1000 Times Goodbye” was apparently forgotten by Megadeth. According to the website Setlist.Fm, the song was played in just 36 shows, held between July and November 2001.
