After the Song Festival, another important moment in Portuguese music arrives, the Play Awards. These are the big nominees and there are surprises!
The ceremony that chooses the best Portuguese artists and songs of the year is almost here, but first we need to choose the nominees. Starting in 2019, the Play – Portuguese Music Awards crowns the best national artists and the best Portuguese songs today.
Despite still being a relatively recent award, it is already well respected among Portuguese music professionals, everyone wants to win the Best Album of the Year. As usual, before the Play – Portuguese Music Awards, the Song Festival took place, which this year There was an eclectic range of artists. In this sense, these are the big nominees for the Play – Portuguese Music Awards 2024!
THE GREAT NOMINEES
Pedro Mafama and Slow J lead the race when it comes to number of nominations, with three nominations. Bárbara Bandeira, Carminho, Expresso Transatlântico, Ivandro and T-Rexcount, respectively, with two nominations. In total they are 50 nominees distributed across 12 categories: Vodafone Song of the YearBest Female Artist, Best Male Artist, Best Group, Best Album, Best Fado Album, New artist, Light and Popular Music Award (for the first time in the competition)Lusofonia Award, Best Music Video, Best Jazz Album and Best Classical/Erudite Music Album.
However, there are two more categories – Career Awardattributed by the promoters — Audiogest and GDA. Already the Critics Award, which is defined by a panel of music journalists. The winners of the main categories (Vodafone Song of the Year, Best Female Artist, Best Male Artist, Best Group and Best Album) are chosen by the PLAY Academy, a group made up of 235 professionals linked to the music industry (agents, managers, artists, producers, show promoters, technicians and journalists).
The Play – Portuguese Music Awards ceremony will take place on the 16th of May, at the Coliseu dos Recreios, and will be broadcast live on RTP1, RTP África, RTP Internacional. The gala will feature a presentation by Filomena Cautela and Inês Lopes Gonçalves.
