I can write that Fabrício FBC is multiplatinum?”, asks FBC himself to representatives of the record label ONErpm in Belo Horizonte. The question is a mere formality because right behind him there are three paintings. Two with platinum records and one gold record, delivered by Pró-Música Brasil. In other words, “multiplatinum” is a fact that he celebrates with joy, with simplicity, with humor and restlessness. After all, these are just some characteristics of the rapper from Minas Gerais who every day gains more space in Brazilian and international music.

The platinum records are for the tracks “If you are single”recorded with VHOOR and MAC Júlia from the album Baile (2021), which accumulates 30 million streams on digital and “If I don’t sing to you”, from the album Padrin (2019), which has 25 million streams. The gold record, with 15 million streams, is by “Delusions“, another partnership between FBC and VHOOR. In summary: there are more than 70 million streams across all digital platforms.

Work

But, although very happy with the achievement, Fabrício remains focused on day-to-day life. “I prefer to work to do more and not think that anything is as big as I imagined it would be,” he says. If in the past you had a Gold Record on your shelf, your desires and demands will change.

“If I don’t hear someone playing the guitar, I can’t say that’s that note, that’s that note. There are times when I think I’m heading down the path of a digital critic, an influencer who thinks that certain genres aren’t music. But I can’t stay in this place, which is the place of literacy”, he confesses.

FBC was born and raised in Cabana do Pai Tomás, in the North Zone of Belo Horizonte. It was there that he formed the sensitive look at the world that appears in lyrics that resonate even with those who don’t have rap as their favorite musical genre. “I have the feeling that music is what makes you move, move.” That’s what he’s really done. Detail: with good and precise doses of popular poetry.

“The music doesn’t need to have a grandiose harmonic progression, very well crafted to get you out of your place, since if we clap here now everyone will sway, everyone will enjoy it. This is music”

Live disc

On March 29th, FBC released the album “Love, Forgiveness and Technology Will Take Us to Another Planet (Live in Belém)”. The band version of the double album, released in 2023, was recorded during the Psica Festival, in the capital of Pará.

The work – also available on video – is made up of 13 tracks: “Atmosfera”, “Aham”, “Qual a Chance”, “O Que Faz Te Ir pra Outro Planeta?”, “Dilema das Redes”, “Antisocial”, “Don’t Call Me Never Again”, “Cherry”, “The Night in My Room”, “Madrugada Maldita”, “Bookshelf”, “Qímico Amor” and “Sorry”.

From Jazz to Rap

FBC’s joy and pride in being accompanied by a band on stage is clear. He says that in the first rehearsals he already realized the impact it would have. “I said: you have to register.” The initial idea was to record the debut, in Belo Horizonte, but, according to him, time contributed to the members’ harmony growing even more.

“All musicians are jazz players. Almost all of them won the BDMG instrumental music award”, he says. In other words, it’s a group of technical excellence, but one that speaks very well to what the rapper wants in music.

“It’s an honor to have done it with them and to have added it but of course I wanted it to be my way, that’s it. They’re f***ing, they’re angry, but I think about music the way it’s in my head,” she says.

Expanded art

In addition to his interest in sound, poetry is something that stands out throughout FBC’s career. In fact, the name of the album makes this very clear, after all, “Love, forgiveness and technology will take us to another planet”, it’s quite poetic, right? For the rapper, there is no shortage of proof that these are things that really transform.

FBC has such an intimate relationship with the word that it has not ruled out the possibility of publishing a book. “I think the desire of any MC is to write, put their thoughts, put their point of view at the tip of their pen and see this need to create being met by something that is physical”, he says.

In other words, it doesn’t matter whether it’s spoken or written words, the idea is to spread ideas. “I think that’s what being an artist is. That’s what art is. Art is completely dedicated to people, to recording our time.”
