‘Uncle Paulo’s’ niece realized he wouldn’t be able to sign, says finance manager

The case of “Uncle Paulo” continues to take new directions and now the police have heard from the manager of a finance company that attended to Érika Souza, the niece took her uncle, already dead, to a bank branch, where she tried to release a loan of RS 17 thousand. It’s worth remembering that Érika was at the finance company before going to the bank.

According to the manager, Érika stated that she thought Paulo was unable to sign documents at the moment. Both establishments are in Bangu, in the West Zone of Rio.

The employee of a loan company states that the elderly Paulo Roberto Braga was already “totally immobile and with his head turned back” in this first establishment, before being taken to the bank. The manager said that Érika was trying to release a loan in her uncle Paulo’s name, which she referred to at one point as “my money”.

On site, the loan was not released and after the denial, Érika would have asked if it was possible to open an account there. When asked whether Paulo Roberto Braga would be able to sign, his niece replied: “I don’t think so”.

Soon after the situation, Érika was then instructed to present any document proving that the elderly person was unable to sign, which was not done. She ended up explaining that she had taken out the loan at another banking institution and provided an Itau account for deposit, where she then went, according to G1.

Completion of the first phase of investigations

The police concluded in the first phase of the investigation into the “Uncle Paulo” case, in which Érika is responsible for attempted theft through fraud and vilification of a corpse, that there is sufficient evidence, through technical evidence and testimony, of the crimes committed by Erika at the time of arrest in the act.

In the second phase, the agents determine whether she committed negligence, as the elderly person may have died on the way to the agencies and other crimes. An app driver who took Érika and the elderly man to a shopping mall near the agencies states that he believes Paulo was still alive when he picked him up.

The police report will be forwarded next Monday (29) to the Public Ministry.

Who was Uncle Paulo

Paulo Roberto Braga was a bus driver and had four brothers, who lived in other states and with whom he had hardly any contact. Therefore, he lived with Erika and three of his niece’s six children in Bangu, in the West Zone of Rio de Janeiro.

Relatives also said that the worsening of their health occurred due to the consumption of alcoholic beverages. In the last weeks of his life, ‘Tio Paulo’ was already very weak and had great difficulty walking. Erika was responsible for much of his care.
