The musical “We Will Rock You”, inspired by the British band Queen and originally written by Ben Elton, premieres in Portugal on September 21st at Campo Pequeno, in Lisbon. The adaptation, created by producer Armando Calado, features hits such as “We Are The Champions”, “I Want to Break Free”, “Bohemian Rhapsody”among many other “successes from the legendary rock group”, the musical’s organization said in a statement.

Founded in 1970, the rock band had Freddie Mercury as lead singer, Brian May as guitarist, John Deacon as bassist and Roger Taylor as drummer. With hits like “Radio Ga Ga” or “Somebody To Love”, Queen broke record sales records all over the world and became a hugely successful band.

Despite the death of Freddie Mercury in 1991, the band remains alive, with Adam Lambert taking on the role of lead singer in 2011. In 2018, the band performed with Lambert in Portugal, at the Altice Arena, selling out the room.

In the Portuguese adaptation of “We Will Rock You” around 50 Portuguese artists are confirmed, including Madalena Alberto, Filipa Saavedra, Adam Filipe, Mário Redondo, Natacha Cantarinhas, João Reis, Miguel Gameiro and Márcio Gonçalves.

This show, “which has a 100% Portuguese team”, lasts 150 minutes and is staged in Portuguese, but with the songs in the original language. Ana Marta Kaufmann will give voice to the first cover of the hit “Killer Queen”. João Guimarães is responsible for the stage direction, the orchestra by Paulo Pires and the choreography under the responsibility of Daniela Pinto.

Tickets are now on sale on the Ticketline platform and prices vary between €15 and €80.
