Rectification. Pedro Nuno sees in Montenegro “a sign that there are conditions” to “value careers”

The PS secretary general is pleased that the prime minister-designate is satisfied with the socialist willingness to make an amending budget viable, considering that there are conditions to value some professional groups in the Public Administration.

“It is only a sign that there are conditions for us to be able to have a more qualified Public Administration”, Pedro Nuno Santos told journalists, upon leaving the meeting of the National Political Commission, which lasted for almost four hours.

“To value careers, the salary scales of teachers, security forces, health professionals – not just doctors – and court officials. I think this statement is very important. This means that we have the conditions to move forward and resolve the situation of these Public Administration professionals by the summer,” he added.Pedro Nuno Santos refused to say which two names he intends to nominate for negotiations with the AD, with a view to the amending budget, stressing that “they will then be communicated to the prime minister”.

For Pedro Nuno Santos, it is necessary to give AD time to train the new executive. “There is a designated prime minister, he will form a government. It is time for this prime minister to form his government. And we have to wait to meet the new government.”

O PS secretary general revealed that he “still” hasn’t spoken to the AD leader: “We will have the opportunity to have a conversation. I hope as soon as possible.”

The socialist general secretary also guarantees that he is prepared to make a strong opposition. “We have the party aligned, with a strategic orientation. That is good. It is a party that is aware of its position, prepared to oppose, a solid opposition, a strong opposition”.

Asked whether he expected the AD to have contacted him to discuss the composition of the Assembly of the Republic table, Pedro Nuno Santos said he had no comment to make on this matter.

“At the right time, I think it will be next week, the PS will present its candidacies“, he said, also asking to wait to find out whether or not the party will present a candidate for president of parliament.

Likewise, Pedro Nuno Santos refused to announce who he will propose as leader of the PS parliamentary bench, stressing that, on Saturday, the party will still have a meeting of the National Commission in Viseu and also with the federation presidents.

“Therefore, at the right time, we will make the announcements we have to make,” he said.

In turn, the outgoing Minister of Finance maintained that it is necessary to analyze the proposals to be presented by the next government within the framework of an amending budget.

“This is like São Tomé. You have to see it to believe it. Therefore, only when we see what the concrete proposals are (…) will we evaluate whether they are sustainable proposals or not”, said Fernando Medina upon leaving the meeting of PS National Political Commission.

Medina even admitted that it may not be necessary to change the State Budget for this year.
