The competition is the result of one of the many changes introduced last year to the teacher recruitment and management model, which reorganized the pedagogical zone tables (QZP), shortening the geographical size of the regions so that teachers are not placed so far from home.
Thus, from 10 QZP there were now 63, through which teachers were now distributed within the scope of the transition competition, in which they were obliged to apply to all new areas created within the geographical limits of the one to which they were linked.
“Depending on their preferences, the candidates were placed in one of the new QZP, which resulted from the subdivision of the extinct QZP to which they were linked, with 85.4% of teachers obtaining placement in the new QZP that they indicated in their first preference” , refers to the informative note published today by the Directorate-General for School Administration (DGAE).
According to the DGAE, of the 24,191 vacancies initially made available, 2,939 places remained unfilled, due to retirement, but also due to “simple individual oversights” or because teachers performing other functions did not submit an application.
The general management also recalls that teachers who participated in the competition are now obliged to accept the placement by 11:59 pm on Tuesday.
When they join the Ministry of Education, teachers are initially linked to the so-called Pedagogical Zone Frameworks, and can be placed in any school in that zone.
In the previous configuration, they could be subject to long daily journeys – for example, the Algarve region corresponded to just one QZP, and could be placed in both Lagos and Vila Real de Santo António -, but these distances are now shortened with the creation of new zones.
Only those who obtained linkage through the external dynamic linkage competition held last year and who this year will have to apply across the entire country were excluded from the transition competition.
