“Institutional solidarity worked over the last eight years, which were different, with three different Governments”, said the President of the Republic in the last institutional meeting with the Prime Minister who is now out of office.

At the last Council of Ministers of the Government led by António Costa, the President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, thanked the outgoing Prime Minister for his service, at a time when he also considered that institutional solidarity has always worked over the last few years .

“Institutional solidarity has worked over the last eight years, which have been different, with three different Governments. The first with a formula never tried in Portuguese politics, the second with a formula that was similar to the first, but not exactly the same and the third with an absolute majority”, highlighted Marcelo.

The head of state highlighted the difficulty of “in different situations, maintaining the same level and level of national solidarity”: “There are not many cases that can be found in Portuguese institutional policy”, he said.

“Was there always an agreement? There wasn’t, but there was always a good institutional relationship, more than that there was national solidarity”, highlighted Marcelo, adding that “the head of state and the head of Government should be like this as much as possible even if they have different starting points”.

The President of the Republic also took the opportunity to thank “those who served in this Government”. “Those who served over these eight years had a higher level of demand”, he considered.
