The prime minister-designate, Luís Montenegro, presented this Thursday the list of ministers of the new Government to the President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa.

Minister of State and Foreign Affairs
PAULO RANGEL

Current vice-president of the PSD and MEP, Paulo Rangel is 56 years old and is a lawyer by profession, with a degree in Law from the Faculty of Law of the Universidade Católica Portuguesa

He was elected deputy to the Assembly of the Republic for the first time in the 10th legislature, in 2005 and was president of the PSD Parliamentary Group between June 2008 and July 2009, when he headed the party’s list for the elections to the European Parliament, which won.

Minister of State and Finance
JOAQUIM MIRANDA SARMENTO

Leader of the PSD parliamentary group for the last year and a half, he is 45 years old and was economic advisor to the President of the Republic Prof. Cavaco Silva in his second term in Belém.

He worked for 10 years at the Ministry of Finance and was a Consultant at UTAO. He is Assistant Professor of Finance (with Aggregation) at ISEG-Lisbon School of Economics and Management, University of Lisbon

Minister of the Presidency
ANTÓNIO LEITÃO AMARO

Vice-president of the PSD, he is 43 years old, teaches Public Finance at the Faculty of Law of the University of Lisbon and at Católica Global School of Law and is President of the Municipal Assembly of Tondela.

He was Secretary of State for Local Administration in the XIX Government of Portugal, led by Pedro Passos Coelho, deputy to the Assembly of the Republic (XI, XII and XIII Legislatures), vice-president of the PSD parliamentary group and general secretary of the JSD.

Deputy Minister and Territorial Cohesion
MANUEL CASTRO ALMEIDA

Former Secretary of State for Regional Development in the Government of Pedro Passos Coelho. Previously, he was a Deputy for the PSD, Secretary of State for Education and Sports and, three times, President of the Municipal Council of São João da Madeira.

He was one of the vice-presidents of the PSD at the time of Rui Rio’s leadership, having resigned in 2019.

Graduated in Law, he is 66 years old.

Minister for Parliamentary Affairs
PEDRO DUARTE

Coordinator of the PSD National Strategic Council since July 2022, he is 50 years old, was leader of the JSD, deputy (1999-2011), member of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly and Secretary of State for Youth in the XVI Constitutional Government, led by Santana Lopes. He was national director of Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa’s first presidential campaign (2016).

With a PhD in Development Studies (ISEG), he is part of the Corporate, External & Legal Affairs department and the European Government Affairs Team at Microsoft.
