The unions want to meet with the new Minister of Health in order to discuss “issues that need to be resolved”. In this sense, there are those who call for a change of strategy compared to the previous Government, in order to avoid “manipulations” and “behind the scenes games”.
With the presentation of the new Government last Thursday, unions are now beginning to position themselves for negotiations with the respective ministries. In this sense, the Health sector is no exception and union leaders emphasize the urgency of resolving a series of problems.
In an interview with RTP3, the secretary general of the Independent Doctors’ Union highlighted issues such as the number of users without a family doctor and waiting times in the SNS as “issues that have to be resolved”.
The president of the National Federation of Doctors (FNAM), Joana Bordalo e Sá, spoke to the same station and appealed to the new Minister of Health, Ana Paula Martins, to “privilege dialogue with doctors”. In this sense, he reiterates the need for speed in opening a “serious and transparent” negotiation, in addition to highlighting the need to avoid “manipulations” and “behind the scenes games”, as he says was the “strategy” of the previous Government, when Manuel Pizarro was responsible for the portfolio.
The president of the Order of Nurses, Luís Barreiras, highlights the “urgent changes”, among which he places the “valuation” of those professionals. In this context, also in statements to RTP3, he asked the minister to sit at the negotiating table with the unions, with the purpose of “reviewing the salary scale, nurses’ careers and working conditions”.
The president of the Order of Doctors, Carlos Cortes, said that the priority is to get to know the Ministry’s team, but above all the “Government program for the area of Health and the policies that will be defined and the capacity for execution”, he said, interviewed by RTP3.
