The Funchal Municipal Assembly room hosted, this afternoon, the opening of the ‘Child Abuse Prevention Month’, in an initiative carried out by the Funchal Children and Youth Protection Commission (CPCJ), in collaboration with the Funchal municipality.

As part of the ‘Laço Azul Campaign’, Ana Maria Nunes, president of the CPCJ of Funchal, began by mentioning that it is our responsibility to “guarantee a happy present that is reflected in a promising future for young people”.

For her part, Micaela Freitas, representative of the Regional Government of Madeira, highlighted the high number of accompanied children, namely around two hundred, distributed across ten shelters.

Furthermore, he mentioned that in 2022 there were 1,497 protection cases filed by the 11 commissions, dealing with various reasons and not just limited to mistreatment.

Helena Leal, councilor, stated that the reflection should cover the whole of society, especially those who “have more social responsibility”, including that of the local authority.

“As long as there is a fragile child, we will always have a reason to mobilize”, he concluded.
