War in Ukraine: the US multimillion-dollar package and the scandal in the Russian government

Russia is intensifying the offensive in Ukraine and Kiev is responding with successive attacks on refineries and fuel depots. This is at a time when Putin is being “pinched” by a scandal in the government.

Wednesday’s attacks hit fuel depots and metallurgical facilities in two cities in western Russia. They seek to stop a war machine that is intensifying offensive in Ukraine.

Kiev hopes that the situation can soon change with the arrival of more aid. Brussels has just released the second tranche of financing for Ukraine, 1.5 billion euros, which adds to the more than 60 billion already approved by the USA. The United Kingdom also announced this week the largest military package ever for Ukraine and Germany has already promised to send the third Patriot defense system. Out of the question is the eventual transfer of the coveted Taurus long-range missiles.

On the front line, Russia is gaining ground, but the morale of Vladimir Putin’s troops is being pinched by a government scandal. The number 2 of the Ministry of Defense was arrested this Tuesday. Timur Ivanov is accused of accepting a bribe and risks a sentence of up to 15 years in prison.
