An accident with a truck this Monday caused damage to the structure of the Vasco da Gama Bridge, in Lisbon. The accident resulted in no injuries.

Hélder Lima, captain of the GNR, adds that there are no casualties and that the alert to the authorities was given around 1:30 pm. The truck driver got out of the vehicle on his own foot.

The impact led to the overturning of the guardrails between the bridge and the river.

The cargo is lying in the Tagus River, adds the official.

The vehicle’s trailer and container fell into the river (the driver’s cabin remained on the deck), and the firefighters are now “trying to hold them, so that they do not sink and that they do not move in the river”, says the same source.

The cargo in question, the source added, is “supposedly fruit”.

North-south traffic on the bridge is conditioned, being closed on the most direct road.

The burst of a tire will be at the origin of the skid.
