An EasyJet plane, which was connecting Faro and Glasgow, made an emergency landing this Monday shortly after taking off, on suspicion of a fire in one of the engines, according to Civil Protection sources and specialized websites.

A source from the District Relief Operations Command (CDOS) of Faro told the Lusa agency that the EasyJet flight declared an emergency at around 9:43 pm to return to Faro Airport, having landed safely around 10 pm.

“The previous intervention plan for Faro International Airport was activated, at the level of red alert, and 34 vehicles were dispatched with 80 operational. The aircraft landed safely, the checks were carried out and it returned to the hangar for further checks”, explained the CDOS of Faro.

According to several pages specializing in aviation, after take-off, the flight crew, with about 190 passengers, bound for Glasgow, Scotland, was alerted to a fire in one of the plane’s engines.

The engine was turned off and an emergency was declared from the aircraft. After landing, firefighters inspected the aircraft, which had no signs of fire, these platforms say.

Airbus A320 flight data show that the aircraft circled the Algarve region for a few minutes before returning to Faro Airport.
