Portway workers will be on strike between the 26th and 28th of August, the last weekend of this month, in protest against the “climate of psychological terror” and the lack of salary increases.

The National Civil Aviation Workers Union (SINTAC) delivered this Wednesday a strike notice covering all Portway workers and which will take place at four airports: Lisbon, Porto, Faro and Funchal.

The workers at Portway – a handling company of the VINCI group – say they are living “in a climate of psychological terror” where “threats and disciplinary proceedings proliferate, creating a social instability unparalleled in the company’s history”, it reads. in a statement from SINTAC.

In addition, the union accuses the company of “depreciation of workers” through the lack of “salary updates” and “consecutive breaches of the Company Agreement”, in force since 2016, in addition to situations of “misrepresentation of performance assessments” that end up blocking career progression.

Since December 2019, Portway workers – 1,200 on staff and 1,100 on contract – have not gone on strike, says SINTAC to Negócios.

Portway’s average salary is currently 800 euros per month and, according to the union, salary increases were frozen between 2016 and March 2020, when there was “unlocking of automatic progressions”.

This will be the second strike scheduled by SINTAC during the month of August, after, together with the Sindicato dos Quadros da Aviação Comercial (SQAC), a strike was scheduled for the 19th, 20th and 21st of August for all ANA workers. /VINCI which will take place at ten national airports.

The unions demand the “restitution of all contributions – hitherto suspended – to the Pension Fund of their workers”, and that the airport manager stop “trying to destroy the rights obtained over decades by ANA workers, through their new EA proposals [acordo de empresa] or ultimately keep the 2015 AE”.
