Footballer Pepê expanded FC Porto’s representation in the squad for Brazil’s main team, joining teammates Wendell and Galeno, said the coach of the Portuguese football runner-up, Sérgio Conceição.

“Pepe plays well on the wing, as an interior midfielder, as a second striker, as a mobile striker and on the wing as a winger. That’s why he was called up for the Brazil national team. Maybe I’m giving something new, but now we have three players there” , indicated the coach, in the press conference following the home defeat against Vizela (4-1), on the 26th round of the I League, in information confirmed by the Brazilian Football Confederation.

The 27-year-old winger made his debut for the ‘canarinha’ under the guidance of then-selector Fernando Diniz in November 2023, having been used as a substitute in a defeat in Colombia (1-2), for the fifth round of the South American phase of access to the World Cup 2026.

With caps for Brazil’s Olympic team, Pepê will now accompany left-back Wendell, whose only call-up dates back to September 2016, when he belonged to German side Bayer Leverkusen, and striker Galeno, who has a Portuguese passport, but opted for ‘writing’ and was called up for the first time on Monday.

Brazil will face England at Wembley Stadium, in London, and Spain at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium, in Madrid, in clashes that mark Dorival Júnior’s debut in command of the country with the most titles in World Cups (1958, 1962, 1970, 1994 and 2002).

Pepê contributed today to FC Porto’s comeback victory against Vizela (4-1), by scoring the third goal for the current third-placed team in the I League, in the 68th minute.
