Present at the gala of the newspaper “O Gaiense”, which takes place this Monday in a hotel in Vila Nova de Gaia, Pinto da Costa commented on the controversy created in Spain by the alleged incidents involving Sérgio Conceição in a FC Porto children’s game, in which The coach’s youngest son participated.
“There are not two versions. There may be 20, but there is only one that is true and that version is in a video that will be shown and which shows that there is nothing that can accuse Sérgio Conceição of. It is a subject that for us does not exist I’m worried about Estoril”, stated the Porto president.
Regarding the environment that has surrounded the campaign for the April 27 elections, the leader once again aimed his sights at André Villas-Boas’ candidacy. “I’m not an analyst. I just have to follow my [campanha] and be aware of FC Porto’s problems. Do I trust in a victory? In any election, only one can win. I think it has not been healthy, mainly due to the partiality with which some media outlets have followed, emphasizing things that are not important and not giving others. The other candidacy didn’t present anything positive, it just says bad things about everything and everyone,” he said.
“Healthy relationship? I haven’t spoken to André Villas-Boas for many years. The relationship doesn’t have to be healthy, nor does it not have to be. In the documentary they presented recently, he gives me great praise. At the time he presented his candidacy , said that I was the president of presidents, that I had a fantastic work. Suddenly I applied and everything started to go wrong”, he added, classifying as “ridiculous” the idea, presented by Villas-Boas, of handing over to a commission independent of the organization of the electoral act: “This is calling into question the seriousness of the institution.”
Regarding his rival’s statement that Pinto da Costa is unable to preside over FC Porto for another four years, he was ironic. “I don’t know what weaknesses he thinks I have. No one can say, even the youngest ones, that in four years they will be here or that they will be alive. I don’t think I’ve missed anything. I’m here, the other day I had lunch in Vila Real, I had dinner in Famalicão and the next day I was in Madrid. If I was thinking that I had an obligation to walk to show that I’m strong, it was too far…”.
