Felipe Melo believes that compatriots Dani Alves and Robinho should serve their respective sentences for the sexual crimes in which they are involved, also arguing that the duo should be reintegrated into society later. In an interview with Globe SportsThis Wednesday, the experienced Brazilian midfielder also recalled that he has a 15-year-old daughter and that this makes him look at things in a different way.

“Look, first of all, nobody is forced to talk about the topic. ‘Ah, but why doesn’t that guy talk?’. He doesn’t talk because he isn’t forced to talk, but I don’t see any problem. I have a daughter of 15 years old. If they had done it to my daughter, I don’t think I would be here to give this interview. I think human beings have to be respected, women have to be respected, men have to be respected”, he began to say Felipe Melo, continuing.

“[A notícia] comes like a bomb, but he has to pay for what he did. If he is convicted, he must pay for what he did. And let it serve as a lesson for others not to do it. This is very serious, you don’t have to put your hand over anyone’s head. He has to pay, and after serving his sentence and leaving, he has to be reintegrated into society”, explained the Fluminense player, who stresses, however, that in football the space is reduced for Dani Alves and Robinho.

“Football won’t allow them to play any more, but whatever… They can’t close the doors to them either, because they paid. According to the law of men, it was paid for. They have to pay. I even think it’s not enough [tempo de pena]. Daniel Alves has already been released from jail. I don’t think so for anyone who did this to a woman. Imagine the feeling of the girl, who is a daughter, and her parents. From the moment someone is convicted, it’s over. There’s no way to put your hand over anyone’s head. We do have a duty to educate our children. It’s also a question of education. Educate our sons, our daughters so that this doesn’t happen”, concluded the 40-year-old former Brazilian international.
