UEFA is considering increasing the number of players called up for the European Championship, repeating what it did in the 2020 European Championship and what also happened in the 2022 World Cup, organized by FIFA.

In recent days, several selectors have spoken out about this possible change. Gareth Southgate, England coach, was one of them: «We have to make the best choices with what we know and some of them will be medical decisions. We managed to do them well in the last two competitions, giving the athletes the necessary time to recover. But, with 23 squads, it is certainly more difficult.”

O The Athletic spoke to a member of European football’s governing body, who pointed to the next workshopat which point this matter can be discussed.

«We took note of the comments made by some national team coaches regarding the number of players called up for the European Championship. On April 8th, we will host a workshop with the participating teams and, on that occasion, UEFA will listen to the selectors’ views. Any idea on this matter will be discussed and evaluated», said the member in question.

Remember that in the 2020 European Championship the number of players called up was increased to 26, due to the coronavirus pandemic. COVID-19. The measure in question remained in the 2022 World Cup.
