At issue is the open disciplinary process, which will allow the use of Marcelo Carné and Pedro Álvaro

The urgent disciplinary process, open to incidents in the Desportivo de Chaves-Estoril game, on the 30th round of the Betclic League, will allow the expelled players to play in the next round.

The regulations dictate that, when there is a decision by the Disciplinary Council (CD) of the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) – in this case, the establishment of urgent disciplinary proceedings -, the temporary preventive suspension ends, meaning that players can act in next journey.

With the opening of the disciplinary process, those targeted can see possible self-defense proven, meaning that there could be an exclusion of illegality (without guilt and, therefore, without any punishment) or attenuated guilt.

The FPF CD opened the disciplinary process regarding the incidents in the game between the Flavienses and the Canarinhos, on the 30th round of the League. “Initiation of disciplinary proceedings, with assignment of an urgent nature, to Grupo Desportivo de Chaves — Futebol SAD, Pedro Miguel da Costa Álvaro, Marcelo Henrique Passos Carné, Nuno Miguel Pereira Diogo, André das Neves Paquete de Oliveira, Tiago Filipe Alves Araújo, Vasco César Freire de Seabra and António Baptista Nobre, by decision of the Professional Section”, says the FPF CD in a statement.

According to the document, the opening of this process is due to the “factuality contained in the official game reports and the participation presented by Estoril Praia Futebol SAD”. “The process was sent, on April 24, 2024, to the Liga Portugal Instructors Commission, with advertising excluded until the end of the instruction”, adds the disciplinary body.

In the game relating to the 30th round of the League, played on Sunday in Chaves, a pitch invasion during the added time period resulted in disrespect and aggression between Flavian fans and Estoril players, with goalkeeper Marcelo Carné and defender Pedro Álvaro to be sent off with a straight red card.

After a break of around 20 minutes, the game resumed, with the home team reaching 2-2 with a goal at 90’+20, through Morim, when striker João Carlos defended Estoril’s goal, due to the expulsion of the goalkeeper and at a time when the Canarian emblem had already exhausted its substitutions.

The home team scored first, through João Correia, at 32′, but the Estorilistas managed the turnaround, with goals from Basso (58′) and Fabrício (71′), giving up the draw after the match restarted.
