Manuel Vilarinho, president of the Reds between 1997 and 2000, reiterated on the ‘Visão Vermelha’ page podcast that during the mandate of his predecessor, João Vale e Azevedo, the Luz club presented false certificates that allowed it to compete in the football championship.
“Benfica could have ended up in the 3rd Division because they signed up for the championship with false documents”, stated the former Eagles director, in line with statements he had already made to BTV at the beginning of 2013, when he confessed that the Reds benefited of protecting entities linked to football to escape sanctions.
“It was public and notorious, at least I’m not telling lies and the members should listen carefully. If I’m talking about it, everyone should understand. This is serious because we could be punished for false documents submitted to the federation to register,” he said. Manuel Vilarinho in a relaxed tone.
