The Masters 1000 in Madrid will be marked by unusual events throughout the encounter between Frenchman Corentin Moutet and young Chinese Juncheng Shang, aged 19. This is because number 88 in the ATP rankings, in addition to an unhappy night, fought with the referee and… with himself.

Even though he won the first set, 7-6, Corentin seemed distressed by the lack of coffee next to the court. As such, he went to the bench, where he found someone to do his bidding despite the judge’s absence. The tennis player was warned and a request was made to remove the person who offered the coffee from the stands.

«I tried, I told you. It doesn’t matter where you play. The referees do not provide coffee. We need to keep playing», argued the judge.

It was the beginning of the end for Corentin. Facing number 111 in the rankings, the Frenchman saw Shang triumph in the second set, 2-6, and qualify for the next phase.

In the decisive tie-break, the Frenchman even lost his racket.

In the next round, this Friday morning, Juncheng Shang will face the Spaniard Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, 28th in the ATP rankings.
