Capcom is criticized for microtransactions in Dragon’s Dogma 2

Capcom released Dragon’s Dogma 2 today (22), however if you check the reception of the title, you will notice that there are many negative reviews from users, especially on Steam.

Many criticize the game’s technical performance, but most of the negative reviews are about the microtransaction system that was implemented silently by Capcom. In other words, no one knew of its existence until the game was publicly released.

In this case, as it is a single-player game, it is a little strange to see several item options being sold. There are items that are currencies (Rift Crystals) to hire Pawns or buy special items, as well as consumable items, such as Fragile Prison Key. All items have the description that they can be obtained by playing.

However, there is one specific item that is causing a lot of discussion: the Cristalporto, which is used for the Fast Travel system. In our review it was said: “like the first game, the fast travel system is limited. Some Crystalports are located in the main cities, and a few more can be placed by the player. But don’t expect to save much time on them in the first half of the game. […] At first, everything flows naturally due to the feeling of discovery that the game provides. But, as it takes more going back and forth across the map to complete missions, this tends to become a little repetitive.”

It’s worth noting that Cristalporto needs something called Pedra-barca to function, which is a limited resource. So, technically, there is no point in the user purchasing several Cristalportos, as they will not be able to use them. If it is possible to purchase this specific DLC more than once, it could be problematic for Capcom, as there will be many complaints.

Another controversial item is Vitalita. Single-use, it is an item that revives any NPC, in addition to the player.

Although it is something very contradictory (microtransactions in a single-player game), it is common for Capcom to do this in titles like resident Evil It is Devil May Cry. These items are usually “time savers” and, despite more Fast Travel points in Dragon’s Dogma 2 also fall into this category, the Vitalite and Rift Crystal systems are not exactly in that category. In reality, Cristalporto perhaps would not have generated so much controversy if the director had not expressed himself in favor of “less Fast Travel” in games.

It is also worth noting that microtransactions resident Evil are added a few weeks after the game’s release and not on the day it hit the market.
