In connection with World Veterinary Day, PAN Madeira reiterated, today, its fight for the valorization and implementation, mandatory by law, of the figure of the Municipal Veterinarian in the Region.
Defending that the animal cause cannot be a flag raised by those who only now “look at it in imitation” of the growing awareness of the population, the party regrets the constant aggressions, disrespect, instrumentalization and animal abandonment, demanding, at the same time, “the more than fair bonuses and support for all institutions that wage an unequal and almost unworthy struggle to safeguard and protect animals, whether they are companion animals or not”.
In this regard, in a note sent to the editorial staff, the party advocates that the creation of a municipal veterinarian is “another step in the right direction, guaranteeing a fairer and more democratic response to animal welfare, and it is saddening that some municipalities continue to resist in the implementation of this, and several other obligations relating to animal and nature welfare”.
“We also remember that, following the recent news of animal abuse by some homeless people, it requires, precisely, the support of the Municipal Veterinarian as an immediate guarantor, when it is still a hustle and bustle of passing responsibility from one side to the other. another, whenever a situation of an animal in danger is signaled”, can be read in the same note.
The PAN further adds to its defense of the immediate reduction of VAT on animal feed and medical-veterinary expenses, the provision of free food for pet animals of homeless people and the creation of a Regional Animal Protection Program of Company, among other measures.
