As announced last month, OnePlus presented this Monday (1) the OnePlus Nord CE 4, new to the giant’s line of affordable smartphones. Despite having a look very close to that of the recent Ace 3V, the device is simpler, although it brings significant improvements when compared to its predecessor as it includes a more modern Snapdragon chip, a larger battery with faster charging and updated connections.

The new OnePlus cell phone maintains the squarer appearance of the previous generation, but opts for a prominent camera module, which is reminiscent of Sony’s design language in the Xperia family.

The look is practically identical to that of the recently revealed OnePlus Ace 3V, but we have a much less powerful technical sheet here. Two color options are available: Dark Chrome, a dark silver tone, and Celedon Marble, green/cyan with a marble-like finish, inspired by one of the shades of the OnePlus 12.

One of the great highlights of the Nord CE 4 is the processing, equipped with a Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 chip. Even though it is not Qualcomm’s most powerful mid-range platform, the 7 Gen 3 is powerful and represents advances of 20% to 30% in performance when compared to the Snapdragon 782G used in the Nord CE 3, according to benchmarks. The component comes with 8 GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 128 GB or 256 GB of UFS 3.1 storage, with space for installing MicroSD cards of up to 1 TB.

Also among its strong points are the 6.7-inch screen, equipped with an AMOLED panel, Full HD+ resolution of 2412 x 1080 pixels and 120 Hz refresh rate. The display promises greater comfort at low brightness levels due to its PWM dimming. 2,160 Hz, and reaches a very high brightness of 1,100 nits for better visibility under the Sun or brightly lit environments, supporting HDR content in the HDR10+ standard.

The cameras may be the least exciting aspect of the new phone as it doesn’t bring anything new, at least when we look at the specifications. With the exception of the removal of the macro lens, the configurations are the same as seen in the last generation: we have a 50 MP Sony LYT600 main sensor and an 8 MP ultrawide sensor with a 112° field of view, along with a 16 MP selfie lens.

The Nord CE 4 once again impresses with its battery, offering a capacity of 5,500 mAh — one of the largest on the market, equivalent to the cell used in the OnePlus 12 — and 100 W fast charging, with a compatible adapter included in the box.

According to the company, the technology is capable of recovering 100% of the charge in just 29 minutes, a very respectable number for an intermediate smartphone.

There are also two curious new features in the device, starting with the IP54 certification for resistance to splashing water. The protection does not come close to the most advanced IP68, present in some competitors, but it should provide greater peace of mind in humid environments and in the event of accidents with glasses of water, for example. The other is the installation of cushioning material inside the new Nord, which would guarantee greater resistance to falls of up to 1.5 meters.

Completing the package, the Nord CE 4 has 5G connectivity, Wi-Fi 6 Dual Band, infrared emitter to control TVs and other devices, high definition stereo sound, USB-C port and Android 14 from the factory, running under the OxygenOS 14.0 interface . OnePlus promises two major system updates and three years of security updates, a number well below rivals like Samsung, which promises four versions of Android, but enough to provide a good support experience for users.

Price and availability

The OnePlus Nord CE 4 arrives in India first, with availability scheduled for this Thursday (4) and suggested prices of 24,999 rupees (~R$1,520) for the 8GB/128GB variant, and 26,999 rupees (~R $1,640) for the 8GB/256GB model.

Users who purchase the device on launch day will receive the OnePlus Buds Nord 2R headset as a gift. There is no information about availability in other countries at this time.
