IT Exam | Five apps for listening to podcasts

-

Competition in the world of podcasts is increasing. And that is one of the reasons why Google decided to invest more in this area through its main multimedia platform (YouTube). This Tuesday, April 2, the Google Podcasts service will no longer be available in the USA and YouTube Music will become the ‘home’ for listening to podcasts in the American giant’s ecosystem. For now, Google Podcasts remains operational in Europe, but the company has already admitted that it has plans to discontinue the application.

In the US, Google has already sent an email to its users, saying that it is possible to transfer subscriptions to YouTube Music or export them to a file that can be loaded from other applications. Thus, April 2, 2024 will be the day that marks the end of Google Podcasts in that market and in June it will not even be possible to migrate or export subscriptions.

This is therefore a time to consider what options there are in the applications market, in addition to Google Podcasts and YouTube Music, for podcast consumption.

Spotify

It is one of the most used platforms and continues to be a reference option for listening to music and podcasts. In total, more than 5 million programs are available and there are around 500 million listeners around the world.

Apple Podcasts

For iPhone users, this is one of the options to consider. It offers good navigation and has many options for managing podcasts. As it is a specific application from the Apple universe, compatibility ends up being lower. Some features are managed through the application and others through the phone’s own settings.

PocketCast

It is an application compatible with Android and Apple mobile devices. Pocket Cast also allows access via browser and sharing via Chromecast (Android) and AirPlay (Apple). It is available on several platforms, is easy to use and offers several options for playing and managing podcasts.

AntennaPod

AntennaPod was designed to be simple to use, and gives you complete control over your listening experience. It is open source and has no ads. The application has been under development since 2011.

PodBean

This is another easy-to-use and intuitive application. The process of uploading video and audio podcasts also offers no complications to its users.
