If you were hoping that the return of BlizzCon in 2023 would mean that the event would once again be an annual celebration of all things Blizzard Entertainment, we have some bad news for you.
The Californian developer confirmed that BlizzCon will not return this year, and that it will instead prefer to make appearances at set events already planned for this year. One of those events will be Gamescom in August, but we can no doubt expect some Blizzard news at the Xbox Games Showcase in June as well.
“Over the coming months, we’ll be sharing more details about our releases coming later this year, including World of Warcraft: The War Within and Diablo IV’s first expansion, Vessel of Hatred. To celebrate these upcoming releases and bring our communities together in new and specials, we will soon share some exciting plans for other industry fairs and conventions, like Gamescom.”
Blizzard has stated that it has a few esports events happening around the world this year, including the Overwatch Champions Series in Dallas and Stockholm, and also plans “various global, in-person events to celebrate Warcraft’s 30th anniversary.” Details of these plans have not yet been confirmed.
This doesn’t mean that BlizzCon is dead, however, as Blizzard has stated that “We’re as excited as ever to bring BlizzCon back in the coming years.”
