It is worth remembering that, on October 14, 2025, support for this operating system ends.

A Microsoft made some significant progress on updates to the Windows 10. The company announced that it has significantly reduced the size of updates, which allows them to be downloaded and installed much faster.

Users of the Windows 11 have already benefited from this situation since 2021, when at the time Microsoft revealed that it had reduced the weight of these updates by around 40%. Now, the company guarantees that updates to the Windows 10 22H2 will decrease significantly in the future due to some optimizations in the packaging methodology.

These are the same improvements coming to Windows 11 in 2021, including removing reverse diffs, improving Windows update creation, and generating reverse update data. Microsoft also offers documentation with all additional information on the subject, which can be found here.

For example, users may notice that updating KB5036892which was launched on April 9th, has 830MB, while the update KB5036979, which was launched on April 23, is “only” 650 MB. And this reduction represents about 22% in the size of the update. But as previously stated, the gain can reach 40%, depending on the version.

Windows 10 with lighter updates

For those who don’t know, Windows 10 support will end on October 14, 2025. From that date on, Microsoft will no longer offer updates… at least for free. Those who wish to see their system updated after that date will have to pay. And while the price to be paid by companies is already known, the company has not yet revealed how much “domestic” users will have to pay.

Users who do not wish to pay to continue receiving updates can always upgrade to Windows 11 for free.
