In February, new rumors emerged that pointed to the Nintendo Switch 2 being revealed only in the first quarter of 2025. Now Nintendo confirms that it will present the next generation of the portable console by the end of its current fiscal year.
Confirmation arrives through a publication https://twitter.com/NintendoCoLtd/status/1787736518762881197 (formerly Twitter), from the company’s corporate account, where it is also detailed that a new Nintendo Direct will be held in June.
However, the publication signed by Shuntaro Furukawa, president of the Japanese giant, states that no further details will be presented about the successor to the portable console. According to the person responsible, this Nintendo Direct will only be dedicated to the new lineup of games for the current version of the Switch.
According to its most recent financial results, Nintendo sold 15.7 million portable consoles in the last fiscal year. Compared to the original and Lite version, sales of the OLED model registered a growth of 1.1%, the data indicates.
After revising its sales forecasts upwards, Nintendo now expects a slowdown in the next 12 months. In total, 13.5 million consoles are expected to be sold. The company also predicts a drop in profits for this new fiscal year, which should be around 400 billion yen.
The most recent financial results report also indicates that Endless Ocean Luminous, Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door and Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD are among the games that Nintendo intends to launch over the next few months.
As for the news that could arrive in the next version of the console, recent rumors point to the inclusion of magnetic Joy Con controls. This may mean that players will not be able to use the current model controllers on the Nintendo Switch 2.
Rumors claim that the Switch’s successor will be a little larger than the current version, although smaller than a Steam Deck. The new console’s software is, for now, unknown and there is still no confirmation as to whether it will allow games designed for the previous generation to be played.
