“ANDWe expect a massive participation of workers from all districts and sectors of activity, both public administration and the private sector,” said CGTP leader Ana Pires, speaking to Lusa.

According to the union leader, “the level of indignation registered in the workplace is very significant, workers are experiencing extreme difficulties due to their low wages” in the face of rising prices and housing costs and “there are families who have to make daily choices between paying your bills and putting food on the table”.

At the demonstration, which is scheduled to start at 3:00 pm, in Lisbon, there will be public administration workers from the municipalities, education, health and public services sectors, as well as from the private sector, from industry to commerce, hotels and food, among others. others.

The CGTP has organized transport for the displacement of workers from the various districts to Lisbon, with, for example, three trains coming from Porto to the capital, said the union leader, adding that “there are also many workers who come by their own means, bringing the family “.

The start of the demonstration, which has the motto “All to Lisbon! General Increase in Salaries and Pensions – National Emergency”, is scheduled for 15:00, starting from two different points of the city.

The demonstration will be organized by sectors and will have two pre-concentrations, one by the Public Administration, which starts from Amoreiras, and another by workers from the private sector and the state business sector, which starts at the same time from Saldanha.

Workers then head towards Marquês de Pombal, down Avenida da Liberdade towards Restauradores, where interventions by Interjovem and the general secretary of the CGTP, Isabel Camarinha, are planned.

The PSP warned on Friday of constraints in road traffic, today, in several arteries in the center of Lisbon, between the Baixa, Amoreiras and Saldanha areas, advising the use of public transport.

The CGTP demonstration was called on 17 February. The inter-union demands an increase in wages and pensions “immediately” of at least 10% or a minimum of 100 euros for all workers, as well as the setting of maximum limits on the prices of essential goods and services and extraordinary taxation “on colossal profits of big companies”.

The national CGTP demonstration takes place one day after a national public administration strike, called by the Common Front of Trade Unions, a structure of the CGTP.
