Soldier Teixeira was on the boat that capsized in Rio das Mortes this Friday (01), during an environmental inspection. In addition to him, there were also Second Sergeant PM Helidiony Barbosa, who was found dead this Saturday morning, and the manager of the Araguaia State Park, a member of the State Secretariat for the Environment, Johann Dvilas Barros Cavalcante, who managed to save himself.
In an audio circulating online, a man claims that only the military’s vest and cap were found. Residents of Novo Santo Antnio (1,065 km from Cuiab) located the vessel used by military police and the manager of the Department of the Environment (Sema).
In the vehicle, a drone and a smartphone belonging to a missing sergeant were found. On his cell phone, there was a photo of the agent with his wife and daughter.
Governor Mauro Mendes (Unio) and First Lady Virginia mourned the death. “It was with great sadness that we received the news about the location of soldier Teixeira’s body. We still had hope that he could be found well, alive. We ask that God comfort the hearts of all his friends and family”, they stated.
The Secretary of State for Public Security, Colonel PM Csar Augusto Roveri, also expressed regret over the soldier’s death. “We set up a task force and believed that we could find him alive. We received this news with great regret and we are very sorry for this fatality. We wish strength to his family and all his friends for this irreparable loss”, he declared.
