He was sentenced to 25 years in prison for the death of his former son-in-law, the 66-year-old retired military police officer, tried this Wednesday (13), in the Ipatinga jury court. The session lasted almost 14 hours. It started at 9am and ended at 10:30pm.

The crime took place just over a year ago, on February 15, 2023. Lawyer Cleyton Nunes Ferreira, aged 38, was heading to the office when he was surprised by the killer.

The action was filmed by a monitoring camera. (Watch the video below)

The three qualifiers pointed out by the Public Prosecutor’s Office, a resource that made the victim’s defense difficult, a common danger, since the crime took place in the city center at a busy time and for a bad reason, were accepted by the sentencing council.

At the beginning of the jury, prosecutor Renata Cristina Torres Maia Coelho, informed that the expected sentence was 24 years, one year less than the decision.

The defendant’s defense was based on the argument of domestic violence, which was contested by the MP.

“One concern of the Public Prosecutor’s Office was precisely this, to prove that there was no domestic violence, that this was a fallacy, they were trying to denigrate the victim’s image, assassinate the victim’s reputation, so it was a thesis very vehemently refuted by the MP and the jurors really recognized that the motivation was the grandson’s custody dispute and not domestic violence”, explained Renata.

Defense lawyer Rodrigo Magalhães said he will study the case to appeal the sentence.

“It’s quite difficult for you to fight with an image from a video showing the incident, but we believe that it was a very combative action, all the legal possibilities within the defense were presented, but the jury’s decision is the one that prevails. So what What we should do is study, and check the possibility of presenting elements that suit the issue of proportionality of the sentence, in accordance with the Penal Code, and eventually modify this amount”, said the defense.

On the day of the crime, Anderson Clayton Nunes Ferreira was approaching the office where he worked, when the killer, wearing a light cap, walked on the sidewalk in front of the lawyer’s workplace.

When the lawyer approaches and recognizes his ex-father-in-law, he starts to run, but is chased and hit by gunfire.

The retired soldier was arrested in the act and confessed to the murder. According to the Civil Police, the motivation for the crime was related to the custody of the grandson, the couple’s son, who separated about two years ago.

According to Civil Police investigations, after the separation, Anderson’s ex-wife and daughter of the accused, moved to Joinville, in Santa Catarina, to live with her father and took her son with her.

Anderson reportedly filed a lawsuit asking for custody of the child and began receiving threats from his ex-father-in-law. The lawyer even asked for a protective measure against him.

For the Military Police, the suspect claimed that the motivation for the murder was associated with alleged domestic violence suffered by his daughter when they were still married.
