The Santa Luzia de Elvas Hospital marked its 30th anniversary this Friday, March 15th, with a series of activities. Integrated into the Alto Alentejo Local Health Unit, it is one of the two hospitals that serves the population of the District of Portalegre, alongside the Hospital Dr. José Maria Grande de Portalegre.

To mark these three decades of existence, a Eucharist was held, followed by the official ceremony of the date and the singing of congratulations to the Elvense health unit. The Mayors of Elvas and Campo Maior, Comendador Rondão de Almeida and Luís Rosinha, were present as well as members of the board of directors of the hospital and ULSAA.

The Mayor of Elvas, in his speech, congratulated the Hospital Unit and also expressed some of his concerns, namely the issue of the Hospital’s infrastructure, which he considers “not to be in good condition”, questioning where “the 20 million investment announced for the our Hospital and Health Center”. The Mayor also left a challenge for the Board of Directors “to be elements that have the strength to never allow the Hospital to be a small appendage in the health area”.

The Clinical Director of the Local Health Unit of Alto Alentejo (ULSAA), Dr. Vera Escoto, and the president of the Municipality of Campo Maior, Luís Rosinha, also participated in this ceremony, in a celebration in which João Manuel Nabeiro, president of the council of administration of Delta Cafés.

The Santa Luzia Hospital in Elvas was opened on March 15, 1994, initially with emergency, outpatient and inpatient services for basic specialties.
