The freedom to do what really matters and ignore not-so-pleasant situations – and even people – are among the benefits of financial independence, according to Ricardo Schweitzer, an economist who left the corporate environment to live off his own wealth.

He spoke about the topic in this week’s edition of League of FIIspresented by Maria Fernanda Violatti, head of analysis of XP’s listed funds, Thiago Otuki, economist at Clube FII, and Wellington Carvalho, journalist at InfoMoney.

With almost two decades of experience in the financial market and stints at houses such as Empiricus and Nord Research, Schweitzer decided, in 2021, to take a break from his career and live off the income generated by his own assets.

At that time, he had already achieved financial independence and reflections on the environment he was living in motivated the change of trajectory.

“A colleague once reported that he could only find his daughter awake at the weekend, given how busy he was on other days”, he recalls. “Today I have a gigantic and incalculable privilege of being close to my son at a moment in his life that will simply never come back”, reflects the economist, referring to the first years of his son’s life.

For Schweitzer, the great asset of financial independence is exactly the opportunity to do the things that really matter and that often go unnoticed in the rush of everyday life.

“It’s not about the car or house you can buy or the trip you can take”, says the economist who, despite his condition, does not lead a life of contemplation or idleness.

In addition to managing his own assets as a professional investor, he also works as an independent analyst and consultant – another option given by the financial freedom he has achieved.

“I dedicate time and energy to activities that make sense to me”, he points out. “I have the opportunity to dedicate myself more to the things I like and, above all, to free myself from situations, people and obligations that bothered me”, she says ironically.

In an interview with League of FIIsRicardo Schweitzer also detailed how he achieved financial independence, gave tips for those who want to get there and revealed what he currently has in his investment portfolio.

The program airs every Tuesday at 7pm on the channel InfoMoney on Youtube. You can also review all past editions.
