UA man and a woman were arrested for their alleged involvement in the death of a baby, who was found in a trash bin, earlier this year, outside an apartment complex in south Florida, in the United States.
Authorities believe the woman is the child’s mother, while the man helped dispose of the body, reports the Associated Press (AP).
Both are accused of failing to report the death, while the individual is accused of desecrating a corpse, Hollywood police said Friday night.
The baby, who still had the umbilical cord, was found on January 7 by a company worker who smelled a strong unpleasant odor.
The man found the baby in a reusable shopping bag inside the trash can and alerted authorities.
Later, the police viewed the video surveillance images to locate the owner of a car that stopped next to the trash can, and were able to locate the newborn’s mother through text messages between the man and the woman. Authorities were also able to collect DNA samples taken from the shopping bag.
The autopsy revealed that the baby showed no signs of violence, and the cause of death remains to be determined. New tests will determine whether the baby was born alive or stillborn.
