More than a hundred exhibitors will be present at the 16th edition of the Alentejano Pork Fair, which starts today, March 22nd, in Ourique to enhance a «very important» sector in the economy of this municipality in the Beja district.
The event is organized by the Chamber of Ourique, in partnership with the Alentejano Pig Breeders Association (ACPA), with «thousands of visitors expected until Sunday», municipal president Marcelo Guerreiro told the Lusa agency yesterday.
«The expectation is the greatest and we hope it will be a great event and a great moment of affirmation of Ourique as the ‘capital of Alentejo pigs’, with a lot of public and thousands of visitors”, highlighted the elected official.
The mayor of Ourique also recognized that the Alentejo pig sector «is very important for the local economy».
«Therefore, we continue to promote agriculture in our municipality, in order to create economic dynamics in our territory», he reinforced.
The 16th edition of the Alentejano Pig Fair starts this Friday, at 9:30 am, with the seminar “Rainfed silvopastoral systems in Baixo Alentejo: what future?”.
The official presentation of the 4th Luso-Spanish Congress of Extensive Livestock and Rural Development is scheduled for 12:00, which will take place in Ourique on the 14th and 15th of November this year, organized by ACOS – Associação de Agricultores do Sul in together with the Union of Health Defense Groups of Alentejo, the Agro-food Cooperatives of Spain and the Federation of Health Defense Groups of Ganadeira.
The official opening of the event is then scheduled for 4:30 pm, a moment that, in addition to the ‘Presunto de Honra’, will include a performance by the Children’s Choir Group of the Municipality of Ourique.
Over the three days, music is one of the highlights of the fair, with concerts by Nuno Ribeiro (Friday) and Expensive Soul (Saturday), both at 11:30 pm, and by Cláudia Martins and Minhotos Marotos (Sunday), at 5:30 pm.
The program also includes the 3rd Homemade Sausage Competition and the traditional Grunting Competition.
Over the three days, the Alentejano Pig Fair in Ourique will also feature Alentejo singing, a livestock exhibition of the breed, children’s entertainment, street entertainment, ‘showcookings’ and ham raffles.
Alpiarça, in the district of Santarém, is the municipality invited to the event in 2024, as it shares with Ourique “a strong connection to field work and quality agricultural production”, revealed the city council in a statement.
