Allan Souza Lima’s sacrifices when living Jesus in Holy Week

Tradition in the countryside of Pernambuco, the staging of Passion of christ, during Holy Week, took on a new look. Instead of the usual blonde, blue-eyed protagonists, this year’s cast is Allan Souza Lima38 years old, also working on the second season of the successful series Cangaço Novo, from Prime Video. “I want this dirty character for myself, a Jesus with dust on his face. I fit the role very well, I have Middle Eastern features”, he assesses. To bring the Messiah to life, he did without makeup and, during rehearsals under the scorching sun, he explains that he decided to give himself completely to the experience. “I told the director, ‘Treat me like Jesus. When it’s time to whip, you can hit,’” says Allan, who proudly reports having suffered wounds on his back. “I needed to feel that,” he says.
