The 9th edition of the event closes the European Qualifying Series 2023/24 season in style
Caparica Surf Fest is returning to Costa da Caparica, in Praia do Paraíso, between today, Tuesday, and March 30. This year is the 9th edition of the event, closing the European Qualifying Series 2023 season in style. /24.
This final stage of the European Qualifying Series (QS) 2023-24 comes to “consolidate” Costa da Caparica as a “favorite of surfers and fans on the calendar”, says the WSL, which organizes the event in collaboration with Almada City Council. “Good weather and beautiful waves are the norm in the Portuguese Spring and the endless beachbreaks offer unlimited opportunities south of the capital”, he adds.
The European QS season launched in August 2023 in Cornwall and has since traveled to France, Spain and Portugal before finishing at the end of the month in Costa da Caparica. A lot is at stake as this event will determine who gets a spot on the 2024 Challenger Series (CS) and ultimately a chance to make it to the Championship Tour (CT).
The men’s ranking is dominated by the French with nine surfers in the Top 10, but only seven spots are available for the CS and the battles will be fierce in Costa da Caparica to secure everything, across Europe, competing for one of the four spots in the CS. One male and one female wildcard will also be awarded for entry into the 2024 CS.
The European QS title is also at stake and while the Portuguese Yolanda Hopkins is in a great position. Frenchman Marco Mignot, who has just competed in the MEO Rip Curl Pro Portugal presented by Corona as a wild card, has a lot of work to do if he wants to win a second consecutive regional crown.
