According to the police investigation, the accused intended “take justice into your own hands” after the teenagers allegedly stole an app driver’s cell phone in Porto Alegre. Remember the case below.

“I asked for conviction, but the jurors acquitted, accepting the defense’s expression of doubt regarding the direct participation of those drivers in the homicide. I will not appeal the sentence and will respect the sovereign decision of the jurors”, says prosecutor Rafael de Lima Riccardi.

The lawyer for two of the accused stated that his clients “did not participate at any point in the criminal action.”

“The accused received a message to help an app driver who had suffered an assault and, for helping a colleague, they were unfairly accused and denounced, suffering more than two years in prison”, says lawyer Jean Severo.

The suspects were arrested during a Civil Police operation in September 2021. The four drivers would be responsible for the homicide of a teenager, attempted murder of another teenager It is torture against both.

The investigation lasted around five months. The police stated that those under investigation were seeking retaliation against the teenagers, suspected of stealing an app driver’s cell phone in Porto Alegre on February 19, 2021. After the robbery, the man allegedly called on his colleagues to go after the teenagers.

“In the act, the individuals kidnapped the teenagers, tortured them for almost two hours with several punches, slaps and kicks, and took them to Eldorado do Sul, in a rural region. Once there, they placed them lying face down, side by side , in the middle of a bush area, without any possibility of help”, said the police, at the time of the arrests.

At the end of the torture, the men allegedly fired a shot at each person in the back of the head. One of the teenagers died. The second said in a statement to the police that he pretended to be unconscious until the suspects left. He managed to call for help on a road and was taken to hospital for treatment.

The police were able to identify the suspects through statements and images from security cameras from commercial establishments, as well as identifications and travel routes provided by the app companies.
