Pinto da Costa said, this Wednesday, that the FC Porto Academy, presented in the VIP Tribune at Estádio do Dragão, “is a dream of many years”, reaffirming criticism of André Villas-Boas’ stance regarding the work in question.
“Four years ago, at the beginning of my term, I promised I would go to a gym. This gym has been a dream of mine for many years. To present this, it obviously takes time. It’s ridiculous when people say that this should be postponed and that this is an electoral asset. No. It is an asset for FC Porto to be better and better. FC Porto’s life doesn’t stop and it has to be taken seriously and with passion”, he said, during his speech.
“We have seen a campaign in which everything is said badly. Four or five months ago, I left a fantastic legacy, until the day I decided to reapply, and from then on everything went wrong. The titles no longer exist, the stadium has not been built… But we will continue and I still have the same desire as 42 years ago to serve FC Porto. For me, 2566 titles is not enough, we have to win more, more and more. And for that this project is fundamental”, added Pinto da Costa.
The Porto leader also left words of thanks to Fernando Gomes, SAD administrator who is leaving.
“Fernando Gomes told me about a year ago that he couldn’t continue with the responsibilities he had and I was worried because we were having great difficulties with this project, but he told me and promised me that he would continue to have the same enthusiasm he always had in the ten years he worked with me. It was the director, in my 42 years, who, after deciding that he was no longer going to continue, worked for FC Porto. Now that he is finishing his duties, I am sure that he will always stay connected to us. The most important thing is the friendship that has united us for decades. He will always be a reference for me and I will be eternally grateful to him”, said Pinto da Costa.
