Prices of Easter menu items varied by up to 150% in Caruaru markets | Caruaru and Region

A survey carried out by Procon in Caruaru, Agreste, shows that the prices of Easter-related products increased by up to 150% in 2024. The survey was carried out between the 25th and 26th of March.

Among the main items analyzed by the inspection were fish, wines, chocolates and confectionery supplies. The research aimed to evaluate the difference in values ​​of the products mentioned in the main sales locations in the city.

Among the items searched, coconut milk was the product with the greatest variation between supermarkets, reaching almost 150.14% discrepancy. Some types of fish also showed high variation, such as sardines (up to 139.36%), tilapia (up to 63.71%) and Saithe cod (up to 50.05%).

Regarding the chocolates, items that commercially symbolize the Easter period, the price variation was also higher than expected. In places of sale, a certain brand has registered difference of more than 37.51% between the supermarkets visited.

“The important purpose of research is to contribute to creating a culture of researching before buying, always generating savings. There are also applications that also help consumers find, through barcodes, the same products at lower prices in different establishments”, explains the general manager of Procon Caruaru, Cynthia Nunes.
