The Israeli Army claimed this Wednesday (27) the death of the ‘number two’ of the armed wing of the Palestinian Islamic movement Hamas, Marwan Issa, in an attack carried out two weeks ago in Gaza.
“One of the organizers of the October 7 massacre,” Issa, was “eliminated in an attack we carried out two weeks ago,” said Israel Defense Forces (IDF) spokesman Daniel Hagari, in an interview . He confirmed information released by the White House on March 18.
The leader of the armed wing of the Palestinian Islamic movement was “eliminated in a complex and precise attack by the Air Force, based on intelligence from the Army and Shin Beth”, the Israeli secret service, detailed the rear admiral.
Since the start of the war in Gaza, this is the highest-ranking official in the Palestinian movement killed by the Israeli Army.
A member of Hamas’s political bureau, Izzat al-Rishq, said in a statement that he had “no confidence” in the Israeli announcement of Marwan Issa’s death. He did not, however, provide proof of the life of this senior representative of the al-Qassam brigades, the armed wing of the Islamic movement.
White House national security adviser Jake Sullivan had announced, on March 18, the death of Marwan Issa.
Israel has not confirmed the information. Hamas’ number two was born in 1965 and was an assistant to Mohammed Deif, leader of the Al-Qassam brigades.
The war in the Gaza Strip was triggered by a Hamas attack on Israeli soil on October 7, 2023, which left around 1,200 people dead and two hundred hostages, according to Israeli authorities.
Since then, Israel has retaliated with an offensive in Gaza that has left more than 32,000 dead, according to the most recent report from the Palestinian Ministry of Health, controlled by Hamas.
