Several people were killed and more than 20 injured in a bus crash on a road near the eastern German city of Leipzig on Wednesday, police and the bus operator said.
“Several people were fatally injured in a serious accident on the A9 motorway. There are many victims,” the Saxon State Police wrote on Platform X.
Local press reported that five people died after a Flixbus bus swerved to the right of the busy road, which connects Berlin to Munich, and rolled over onto its side.
The road was closed in the direction of Munich, according to police. Images showed ambulances and helicopters working at the scene.
“The exact circumstances of the accident are not yet known,” Flixbus said, adding that it was working with emergency services to find out what happened.
Around 53 passengers and two drivers were on the bus, which was traveling from Berlin to Zurich.
