Salvador’s metropolitan bus fares were increased by 8.11%. The prices came into effect this Wednesday, the 27th. Until the previous day, the ticket still cost the previous price. The announcement by the State Agency for the Regulation of Public Energy Services (Agerba) also included an adjustment in toll rates for BA-099.

From now on, prices for metropolitan buses in Salvador will vary between R$5.20 and R$10.40, depending on the type of route. Buses in Ring 1, for example, which cover the municipalities of Lauro de Freitas and Simões Filho, cost R$ 5.20.

Ring 2, which includes the cities of Camaçari and Candeias, costs R$7.40. Ring 3, which serves Dias D’Ávila, Mata de São João, São Sebastião do Passé and Madre de Deus, now costs R$ 10.40. The values for the public transport system are defined in Agerba Resolution 11.

The last fare increase took place in June 2022. In November 2023, the Salvador Mobility Secretariat (Semob) had announced an adjustment to the technical fare for public transport, subsidized by Salvador City Hall.

The tariff review study, provided for in the transport concession contract, indicates the amount needed to fund the system, such as the purchase of diesel oil, vehicle maintenance and payroll, for example. According to the document, the technical tariff was expected to be R$5.50 in 2023, and R$5.78 for 2024, after correction for inflation.

According to Semob, with the end of the fare review study and the implementation of the subsidy, the value of metropolitan bus fares should not be readjusted until the end of 2024.

Toll adjustment

The new values for the toll rate on BA-099, also known as Estrada do Coco, will be valid from Monday, the 1st. From April onwards, the fare for cars, trucks and vans will be R$9 on weekdays and R$13.50 on holidays and weekends.

The adjustment was equivalent to an increase of 4.60%, compared to the price charged previously. According to the publication in the Official Gazette, the price responds to the incorporation of the IPCA variation.
