Actor from Elas por Elas reports preparing to live as a priest in Dona Beja: “It was a challenge”

Success in the 80s, when it was shown on the now extinct TV Manchete, the soap opera Dona Beja is being recreated by HBO and promises strong emotions for its debut on the streaming platform. streaming Max, on a date yet to be defined.

With recording already advanced, the plot includes 40 chapters that will tell the story of Ana Jacinta de São José (Thank you Massafera), the Minas Gerais woman who irritated women and enchanted the men of Araxá (MG). The cast of the new edition highlights the actor from Ceará Arilson Lucaswho plays Father Aranha, friend, advisor and an essential character in Dona Beja’s life.

“It was a challenge. In October they called me to start recording the scenes. I was in Fortaleza, going through the process of saying goodbye to my mother – she discovered metastasized cancer -, I needed to go and record and I already participated in a photo and preparation session“, he recalls, who is on the air as Calixto in the global soap opera They for Them.

“In the middle of preparation, I lost my mother and had to return to Fortaleza and, in the same week, return to recording. Then, Dona Beja It represents strength for me, because I needed strength to continue my life, my work. Even asking my mother for permission to leave her at the hospital and go, knowing that I might not find her alive again. I had to be strong in that moment“, says Arilson.

The actor has some indigenous characters on his resume, but to play Father Aranha, he got in touch with his ancestry to better understand the essence he needed to share on screen.

“I started researching and my mother told the story of her family and my great-grandmother, who lived in the Canoa Quebrada region, inhabited in the past by indigenous people. I discovered that she was a typical indigenous woman – with black hair and dark skin – who fell in love with a Portuguese man, which represents the history of Brazilian colonization. It was with this issue of indigenous strength in mind that I engraved myself with a headdress on my head, on my birthday. That was a very strong representation, and of freedom“, reports
