When I finished the treatment, in September 2023, I felt a lump on my neck. Even before going to the appointment and receiving the test results, in January of this year, I already knew that the cancer had returned. It was a huge lump that kept growing. I had already warned my family and my fiancé that I would not undergo any more treatments if the cancer returned. I was very tired.
But, during the consultation, the doctor suggested one last treatment, another immunotherapy. I only did one application and my legs lost movement and are only now fully returning. The medication I took before had already caused neuropathy, so everything got worse.
As a result, we had to suspend the medication and then I was referred to palliative care. [práticas para o bem-estar de pacientes com doenças em estágio avançado]which is where I am now.
‘I no longer have a treatment option’
I chose, through other doctors who advised me, including my palliative care doctor, to stop treatment with the hematologist, but I did not choose to be a terminal patient.
