Anyone who has a 95 gasoline car can expect another big increase in fuel prices next week. The price will suffer further worsening, after last week recording the biggest increase since the beginning of the year.

«The evolution of quotations in euros points to an increase in the price per liter of 95 gasoline by 2 cents and a decrease of up to 1.5 cents in the price per liter of diesel», says a source from one of the main national oil companies to ‘Executive Digest ‘.

In the same vein, prices at gas stations next to hypermarkets will follow a market trend, with an «increase of 0.0175 euros in gasoline and a decrease of 0.0135 euros in diesel», says another source.

Data from the General Directorate of Energy and Geology (DGEG) show that the average price of a liter of straight diesel in Portugal currently costs 1.628 euros per liter, while that of straight 95 gasoline is worth 1.777 euros.

According to data from DGEG, this will be the 11th increase in gasoline this year – with only two drops recorded -, having gone from 1.643 euros/liter to 1.777 euros/liter, plus 13.4 cents. Diesel will record its 6th drop of the year: even so, it is 6.3 cents more expensive.

Thus, from next week, filling the car with 60 liters of diesel will be 2.8 euros more expensive compared to the beginning of the year: filling the tank with gasoline will cost 9.24 euros more over the same period.

TAXES

The most recent fuel bulletin from the European Commission indicates that Portugal has the 8th most expensive 95 gasoline in Europe, around 3.5 cents below the European average and 14.1 cents more expensive than in Spain. Diesel occupies 13th place in the European ranking.

The price difference between Portugal and Spain results from the tax burden, since, without taxes, the price of gasoline is cheaper in Portugal. Without the tax burden, each liter of 95 gasoline in Portugal would cost 86.5 cents, that is, less than the 87.9 cents in Spain.

Among the EU countries, Denmark has the most expensive 95 gasoline on the Old Continent: 2,059 euros, followed by the Netherlands, with 2,031 euros – the only two countries above 2 euros. Finland ‘reigns’ in diesel: 1,976 euros.
