Gal Costa’s son exposes suspicions about his mother’s death, and Wilma Petrillo responds | News

Gabriel Burgosson of Gal Costa, and Wilma Petrillohis former partner, spoke for the first time about the legal action taken after the artist’s death, in November 2022. The young man claims that the businesswoman and her mother were not a couple, therefore she is not entitled to half of the singer’s inheritance .

After Gabriel reached the age of majority and left the house he shared with his mother and Wilma, the dispute over his inheritance came to a head with a lawsuit in the São Paulo Court of Justice. Legal representatives of Gal’s son claim that a will prepared by the singer excludes the widow from the inheritance, assigning her assets to the Gal Costa Foundation.

Wilma was Gal’s manager and lived with her for 24 years. Recently, she obtained court recognition that she had a stable union with the artist. “The complicity we had was very great. The love was even greater. I know that Gal loved me very much”, she said to Fantastic this Sunday (31).

The singer’s son, who was adopted by her in 2007, tells another version of the story and asks for answers about his mother’s death. At the time Gal passed away, Wilma did not want to reveal the cause of death and, on Globo’s Sunday show, she said that she simply followed the artist’s wishes. The causes of death are listed on the death certificate: cardiac arrest and cancer.

“I just want to make sure it’s really cardiac arrest, did you understand? It was all very sudden”, said Gabriel. Wilma replied: I don’t know what he’s suspecting. Does he think I killed his mother? That I killed Gal?“. The young man said he doesn’t believe the businesswoman would reach that point, but he still wants answers and, therefore, he asked for the body to be exhumed.

Both gave details of the day Gal died at home. In this type of situation, the body usually goes through the IML or the Death Verification System to identify the cause of death, but Wilma did not want an autopsy to be carried out. According to the businesswoman, the singer said before she died that she didn’t want her body to go through one.

Gal was buried in São Paulo, in a tomb that belongs to Wilma’s family. Gabriel asks the court for the body to be taken to Rio de Janeiro. “It was what my mother wanted,” he said.

Toxic relationship?

After Gal’s death, the businesswoman went to court to become an executor in the process and asked for recognition of a stable union. The court complied, as Gabriel signed a document attesting to his mother’s union with Wilma. Now, he is asking for the annulment of this document, which he claimed to have signed after being coerced by the businesswoman.

“Yes, they had a very brief relationship. She became my mother’s manager. They started living together but without any relationship other than friendship and work”, said the young man, who assured that they had a toxic relationship. Wilma, on the other hand, said that they were always a couple and that they had a harmonious relationship.

On Gabriel’s certificate, only Gal is his mother. He never called Wilma his mother and said that she only started saying that he was her son after the singer’s death, as she was interested in the inheritance. “My only mother is Gal Costa,” he emphasized. The businesswoman said that Gabriel is taking this stance because he is manipulated by his girlfriend, who is 30 years older. “It’s clear that she wants Gabriel to be the heir and for her to manage his assets.”

Inheritance value

Gal’s son also said he doesn’t know anything about the value of his mother’s inheritance. “Where does everything reside? That’s what I want to know. That’s my main question. Where is it?”, declared the young man. Wilma said that she also doesn’t have any wealth, but, according to her, the singer didn’t have any fortune and assured that she left behind a lot of debts.
